Faith is an intricate part of many people’s lives.
Faith is the hope in the valley, the light in the darkness, and the compass in the wilderness. Without faith, many would not have made it this far. Therefore, faith is always welcome in therapy because it is a significant part of who you are. Faith joined with work produces results.
“For as the body without the spirit is dead,
so faith without work is dead also.”
James 2:26 NKJV
Perhaps, you want to grow more in your faith and intertwine it into your daily life and healing process. Maybe, you have challenges with what you believe because of past experiences. Regardless, you get to decide how relevant faith is in your life and change the things you want to change. In therapy, I will encourage you to exercise what you believe in your life.
Faith can be hard to talk about, especially when it involves walking through personal struggles. Feelings of disappointment with God or questioning His care factor in your life can make someone want to avoid the topic together. I understand that you want to steer clear of faith, and I also understand you want to jump right in. Both options are welcomed in my office to support you where you are.
Struggles with faith have many causes.
What causes YOU to struggle? Are you questioning life’s meaning or trying to find better communication strategies for interacting with your teenage daughter?
Learning new communication tools might not need to involve faith as much as questioning your existence and values. In my practice, I have seen women (adults and teenagers) hurt by the church and are trying to understand how it happened and how to recover.
Your faith and the problems you strive to solve will directly influence how much personal faith will be present in your journey.
Whatever your stance, YOU call the shots on if and how you integrate faith into your counseling journey.
Am I a Christian counselor or a Christian who is a counselor?
That’s one of the most common questions I get. It seems straightforward, but it’s not always easy to answer without some clarification. Clients might ask me if my faith aligns with Christian beliefs and values. They also might be asking if I integrate faith within the counseling sessions. Let me address both.
I am a Christian who offers professional counseling. Because I have a license, it is inappropriate for me to influence or force my faith on my therapy clients. Not to mention that the thought sounds HORRIBLE − even if I didn’t have to report to a licensing board!
Everyone is on their journey of faith, and I hope you will feel safe and supported no matter where you are at this moment. It’s okay to wrestle with hard questions involving faith or anything in my office.
Do I offer Christian counseling? I provide Christian counseling for those wanting to involve their faith within the counseling process. This counseling typically happens organically by communicating that your Christian faith is something you find valuable for our counseling sessions.
Telling your story is part of your faith journey.
Wherever you are with your faith, I want to hear your story and support you through the challenges you face.
Call me to schedule a free consultation to answer any questions you may have and to determine whether we are a good fit to work together. I can’t wait to hear from you!
Disclaimer: While all faith is welcome, I am a Christian, and the foundation of this practice focuses on Christian principles. I believe in God, His son, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!
